Intel Montevina Launch at Geek Terminal
A kind invitation from Brian and Tania from Ogilvy led me to come to the Intel Montevina launch at Geek Terminal yesterday. Of course, I missed the exciting yacht event in the morning because of my day job. However, it has been a great evening to catch with fellow Singaporean technology bloggers. The event is to celebrate the launch of the new Intel Centrino 2 Processor Technology in Singapore. Of course, this is an unique event, because we only get to see this new chip released by Intel, and also the partners with Intel who were at their event with the PC manufacturers displaying their laptops powered by this new chip. Among the companies I saw were Acer, Lenovo and Fujitsu. Of course, what's so great about this new Intel Centrino 2 Process technology?
First of all the chip is actually very small, as you can see on the photo by the left. The Intel Centrino 2 Processor Technology is used to power the new generation notebooks for various hardware manufacturers. The main features of the chip is that it is a faster, eco-friendly, and delivers more performance for multitasking or intensive applications such as high definition entertainment or gaming with power-saving features for the battery life you need. I can almost imagine the situation when I am on board of a plan and watching a Blu-ray DVD. Definitely, for the notebook, the chip can allow the consumer to do the following (check here for more information on performance, wireless, power savings and energy efficiency):
Watching the latest high definition movies with native support for Blu-ray decoding. According to Intel, the idea is to allow you to watch one full movie on a single battery charge.- Maximize the Multimedia and Minimize the waiting: The processor doubles the rate at which streaming media instructions can be executed, and is about 2 times faster than the Intel chips from the previous generations. It is actually good for video editing (for example, it can speed up Michael work in editing videos for the Geek Goddess show).
- Long Battery Life: The chip is designed specifically to extend battery life. In fact, the chip is very thin, and armed withthe 25W Intel Core 2 Duo processors that delivers an energy-efficient mainstream performance.
- Stay Connected Faster and in More Places: The integrated wireless capabilities gives flexible and fast connectivity options that let the user to use thousands of public Wi-Fi networks. In fact, they tested this on the yacht in the morning which I will let the other bloggers tell you their experience.
During this event, as usual, the all men team (Peter Du, Michael and myself) from the Geek Goddess show did a review of the chip with Ajay Mathur, the regional manager in marketing for Southeast Asia from Intel. We also solicited an interesting interview from Howie and Derrick from Lenovo to tell us about how the new Intel Centrino 2 Process technology is powering their new laptops and their experience working with Intel. Of course, the interview will be up some time later, but I can share with you some pictures about the event here:

Great post Bernard, I missed the bloggers' event coz I was double booked but at least I managed to follow up on the event through your blog post :)

Hey Brian - thanks for having Howie and I on the show. He had a blast in front of the cam; I had a blast laughing from the sidelines. Can't wait to see the final clip.
