Hi Gerald,

Hmmm, I don't think I have given "half truth" on your position. I did thought about your point about "PAP fears the day 6" scenario. I almost wanted to enforce your point on this, given that Vivian Balakrishnan once said that new media helps to make things more transparent for the politician such that they will behave properly. I will need someone to give me the exact quote on that.

"a Singaporean friend of mine and an expert on social media"...

So if the stupid Americans had listened to the Singaporean expert, they may have won! Maybe the Singaporean could have taught them how to run a PAP-style campaign! :)

Hi Bernard,

Thanks for the link, but I'd like to point out two "half-truths" that both you and Yawning Bread have said when quoting me. :)

Yes, I said that the Films Act (btw it's Section 33, not 35 I believe) may benefit the PAP more than our weak opposition. But my main point after that was:

"...what the PAP perhaps fears, is if on Day 6 of the nine day election campaign period, an opposition party puts out a truthful video that uncovers a real misdeed on the part of the ruling party (eg, a top lawyer fixing judicial appointments or a Health Minister committing adultery in a hotel room), then the whole tide of the electorate could suddenly turn against the government and vote them out of power.

Perhaps this is why they want to continue to keep that law."

It would be sweet if the Singapore government's strategy backfires the way Clinton's did.
